We ship most items via UPS or Fedex and some smaller items via the US Post Office to our large customer base in the Northeast US corridor, but can ship to any deliverable location in the continental US. We can also ship rental gear to Alaska and Hawaii but it requires a quote for shipping costs - just give us a call. Unfortunately we cannot ship to Canada or other points outside of the US due to delays and costs in customs.
If you want us to ship to a motel along your travel route, you should let them know in advance to expect a package, and be sure the shipping addressee you give us is to the person named on the reservation at the motel; otherwise they sometimes have trouble matching it up. If we ship to a UPS or Fedex facility for pickup, keep in mind pickup hours vary from location to location, and may not be open on Sunday. Shipments to one of the carrier's corporate owned locations are the most reliable; gear is usually available earlier in teh day than residential deliveries; and there are no pickup fees. But some are only open weekdays. Shipments to an affiliated pickup location - a 'UPS Store' or Walgreen's etc - in a shopping center are sometimes more convenient; check the carrier site for locations that align with your travel schedule of give us a call to discuss. Some lodges at National Parks accept shipments, but you should confirm that in advance as there may be special shipping-label instructions that vary from the address on their web site - just call and ask if they accept UPS/Fedex shipments, and if there are any special instructions. There are often delays in shipments inside a Park, so we suggest other pickup points.
This site calculates one-way shipping costs by the total shipping weight of the gear in the cart, assuming Ground shipping from the carrier. To qualify for this shipping cost, your order must be placed far enough in advance to allow for the Ground transit days - anywhere from 1-5 business days depending on distance from us in AZ. If there isn't enough time for Ground, we will contact you to see if you wish to have the shipment expedited at additional cost by the carrier or can change the date needed. If neither is acceptable, we will cancel the order without any charges. Note that "shipping weight" for camping gear is nearly always more than its actual carrying weight due to the high volume and low density of most gear items.
Any shipment up to 10 pounds is typically around $13, and the rate increases in increments of $5 - $10 in higher weight brackets. You will see the total shipping cost before entering any personal information. For orders of interest that exceed 150 shipping pounds, you will be prompted to call us for a more precise quote. If you will be picking up gear at our location in AZ, use our store address for shipping and we will remove the shipping charge from the total.
You can return the gear via any carrier of your choosing, but you should use one that has tracking. Be sure to tape the box(es) well for a safe return as you are responsible for the gear until it is returned to us. You must drop it with the carrier by the end date of your rental term to avoid any late charges; we use the postmark or UPS/Fedex pickup date as the governing end date. We can prepare a return label to include in the box at our actual costs if you want - just let us know in the comments box as you check out. Note your costs for return may be more than what we charged to get it to you as we often subsidize part of the initial shipping. See our Rental Policies for more information.
